“As a result of the 30-year-long regional conflict, Azerbaijan is one of the countries most contaminated with mines in the world today,” said Leo Dockerty, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Minister of State for Europe and North America of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, APA reports.
The minister said that in 2020, Great Britain was one of the first countries to provide important and life-saving support to Azerbaijan in the fight against mines: “Since then, we have increased this support by more than 1 million pounds. We have provided Azerbaijan with world-leading demining equipment and provided training to local authorities. This year, we are expanding our offer for specialized explosive ordnance disposal courses to further enhance the training provided to the Azerbaijani military. This will provide the skills necessary to work in a high-threat environment. Great Britain is contributing to the promotion of peace and secur
ity in the South Caucasus and the return of hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis from Aghdam to Zangilan.”
