The fourth ministerial meeting on the implementation of the ‘Agreement on a strategic partnership in the field of green energy development and transmission between the Governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary’ has been held in Bucharest, Romania. Azerbaijan`s Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov, First Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Romeo Mikautadze, Minister of Research, Innovation and Digitalization of Romania Sebastian-Ioan Burduja, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Peter Sztáray attended the event. Representatives of Bulgaria and the European Commission also took part in the meeting. A Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of a joint venture between the four countries was signed at the meeting. According to the memorandum, the joint venture involving the system operators from respective countries will be in charge of the project envisaging the green energy transmission from the Caspian Sea to Europe. The sides noted that the feasibility study of the initial stage of the project on the Black Sea would be completed in October 2023. They also approved the technical assignment of the Caspian Sea-European Union Green Energy Corridor and tasked coordination of project’s feasibility study to Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency under the Ministry of Energy (AREA). The sides signed a protocol on the results of the fourth Ministerial Meeting on green energy development and transmission and agreed to hold the next meeting in Budapest, Hungary. The agreement on a strategic partnership in the field of green energy development and transmission between the Governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary was signed in Bucharest on 17 December 2022 by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister of Romania Nicolae Ciuca, Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili and Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban with the participation of President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
