France’s colonial ambitions still going strong – Ahmed Tabet

BAKU: France is continuing its colonial pursuits, with a particular focus on the Comoros Islands, the Committee for the Independence of Mayotte member Ahmed Tabet stated, Trend reports. Speaking at an international conference organized by the Baku Initiative Group in Baku, Tabet criticized France's actions on the Comoros, alleging that French forces continue to control the surrounding waters. "France does this to hinder the movement of Comorians on their own territory. Another negative consequence of this occupation is that these territories remain a focal point for Europe. France's policy in this area is aimed at dismantling Comorian society," Tabet emphasized. In addition, he emphasized the need to bring these challenges to the attention of the global community. "The international community must pressure France to cease these illegal actions. This injustice must come to an end," he added. The Baku Initiative Group is hosting the international conference titled "France's Illegal Occupation of the Mayott e Island of the Union of the Comoros," which includes public figures from Mayotte, academics, human rights advocates, NGO leaders, political party members opposing France's occupation, and diplomats accredited in Azerbaijan. The conference delves into the long and winding tale of French colonization of the Comoros, shedding light on how the occupation left its mark on the Comorians. It also unravels the intricate web of geopolitical and economic interests that fueled French colonial policy in the region. Source: Trend News Agency
