In January-May this year 713.000 foreigners and stateless persons travelled to Azerbaijan. The number of travelers has risen by 52.3% as compared to the same period of 2022. However, not all of them visited Azerbaijan for tourism purposes: 452.300 people or 63.4% of the total number of foreigners crossed the state border in this period. That said, the number of tourists rose by 45.1% as compared to the first five months of the last year. According to SSC, if 123.100 of 311.600 foreign tourists arrived in Azerbaijan through land borders in January-May 2022, this year they had practically only one possibility to cross the border - by air. By water transport only 5,889 foreign tourists were able to visit Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan's land borders are completely closed to foreigners and Azerbaijani citizens until 1 October 2023. For comparison, in the first five months of 2023, 806,000 tourists visited Armenia, where there are no restrictions on entry and exit for citizens and foreigners, almost twice as many as Azerbaijan
