Turkmenistan intends to boost natural gas exports to Iran

ASHGABAT: Turkmenistan is planning to increase natural gas supplies to Iran to 40 billion cubic meters per year, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of the Turkmenistan People's Council, announced, Trend reports. According to official sources, he made this statement during talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during his working visit to Iran. To achieve this goal, upgrades to the gas pipeline infrastructure are required, including the construction of new facilities and attracting investment, according to the chairman. "There are plans to build two gas compressor stations and a 125-kilometer pipeline in Turkmenistan. This will enable additional volumes of Turkmen natural gas to be delivered to Iran up to the Caloyuk gas measurement station," he said. Furthermore, it was emphasized that in the near future, under the SWAP scheme, Turkmen natural gas will be exported to Iraq and subsequently to Trkiye. To note, in July 2024, Turkmenistan and Iran signed an agreement for the annual supply of 10 bill ion cubic meters of Turkmen natural gas, which will then be transported from Iran to Iraq.
