“SPECA is active again. The United Nations General Assembly recently adopted a resolution regarding this program, I congratulate the participant countries on this occasion,” Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Tatiana Molcean said as she delivered a speech at the Summit of the United Nations Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) held in Baku, APA reports.

According to her, SPECA’s importance for the region is further increasing.

“The economy of this region’s countries has increased fivefold. The situation in the world has changed, political difficulties have increased, but at the same time, for economic development, new opportunities, especially transit logistics chains have opened up. SPECA has been able to ensure economic growth in its region. There are advances especially in the field of green economy.”

Tatiana Molcean noted that SPECA is a clear example of multilateral cooperation:

“We see the potential of regional connections in the fra
mework of this platform, we can realize it with joint efforts. We expect the matter of the establishment of SPECA’s Trust Fund to be resolved soon. We hail Azerbaijan’s decision to voluntarily allocate funds for the fund, and we believe that other countries will also contribute to this fund.”
