New WFP Country Strategic Plan for Tajikistan
• In January, WFP started the implementation of its new Country Strategic Plan (CSP) 2023-2026 for Tajikistan.
Within the new CSP framework, WFP will work together with the Government, private sector, academia, and civil society to prioritize food security, increase local food production, and strengthen the resilience of households most vulnerable to food insecurity. Immediate joint action is key to ensuring sustainable food and nutrition security while leaving no one behind.
School Feeding Programme
• In January, the first national School Feeding Unit was opened under the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan. This unit aims to strengthen the ministry's capacity to monitor the activities of the WFP School Feeding Programme. The unit will monitor the implementation of the School Feeding Programme, which is a major step toward its full nationalization, and regularly coordinate all issues related to school feeding with WFP. The unit will also consult with the Inter-ministerial School Coordination Council under the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Tajikistan, as well as with regional authorities and relevant ministries, entities, and partners.
• WFP started the implementation of the School Feeding Programme (SFP) through the fund transfer modality. Schools have received funds allocated and started procurement of staple food commodities. Within the reporting month, a total of 162,526.87 Tajik somoni (around US$15,625) was utilized through hot meals arrangement for 8,663 students in 16 pilot schools across the country.
