Baku Music Forum features “Traditional music genres” panel session

The first-ever Music Forum in Azerbaijan, held as part of the 100th anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, featured the panel session themed 'Traditional music genres'. Speakers at the panel session, moderated by Director of "Media FM" radio station, musicologist Rustam Aliyev, included Rector of the Azerbaijan National Conservatory, professor, composer, People's Artist Siyavush Karimi, senior researcher at the Institute of Architecture and Art of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, professor, musicologist Naila Rahimbayli, professor of the Azerbaijan National Conservatory, musicologist, Honored Artist Fattah Khaligzade, UNESCO expert on intangible cultural heritage, musicologist Honored Artist Sanubar Baghirova, Assistant Professor at the Azerbaijan National Conservatory, folk poet Fakhraddin Bakhshaliyev, Honored artist, Mugham singer Nuriyya Huseynova and composer Pika Akhundova. The panel session featured discussions on topics such as "Art of Mugham: dastgah tradition and free composition", "Ways of revitalizing the traditions of Ashiq music (music form of oral art)", "Problems of collecting and systematizing traditional music samples", "Problems in traditional music performance and their evaluation", as well as "Existence of Azerbaijani national music traditions in contemporary genres and "problems". The first-ever Music Forum in the country, co-organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Azerbaijan's Ministry of Culture, will run until 31 October.
