Yesterday, per the initiative of the Executive Committee of the People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan (PDPT), a scientific-theoretical conference was held in Dushanbe on the topic “Leader of the Nation — Initiator of the Global Water Goals of Sustainable Development.”

The conference was attended by the leadership of the PDPT Central Executive Committee, PDPT Executive Committee in Dushanbe, National Academy of Sciences, Center for the Study of Glaciers, Institute of Water, Hydropower and Ecology, Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, employees and responsible persons of the party structures in Dushanbe, chairmen of committees and primary party organizations, deputies of the city and district assemblies of the people’s deputies, scientists, researchers, experts and representatives of the media.

The event was opened by the Chairman of the PDPT Executive Committee in Dushanbe Ibrohim Mirzozoda, who said that the purpose of conference is to promote the international initiative of Tajikistan on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028,” and the practical implementation of the PDPT Electoral Program for 2020-2025.

Deputy Chairman of the PDPT Khayrinisso Yusufi said that 23 years ago, on October 1, 1999, in his speech at the 54th session of the UN General Assembly, President Emomali Rahmon noted that the world needs to take the issue of clean water seriously and undertake serious initiatives.

“Emomali Rahmo is the author of four international initiatives, including International Year of Clean Water, 2003, International Decade for Action ‘Water for Life, 2005-2015,’ ‘International Year of Water Cooperation, 2013,’ and finally, International Decade for Action ‘Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028.’ The last initiative is being implemented,” Yusufi added.

President of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan Farhod Rahimi noted that given the rapidly growing population, it is necessary to find new ways to process and produce water.

“Tajikistan is a leader in the protection of glaciers in the world,” said Director of the Institute for Water Issues, Hydropower and Ecology Orif Amirzoda.

Water resources are also of great importance in terms of employment, which in turn contributes to economic, social, and human development.

“In this regard, the global initiatives of President Emomali Rahmon in the field of water, which received support from the UN and the international community, are important and relevant initiatives of our time. Since 2000, on the basis of these initiatives, the UN General Assembly adopted seven resolutions aimed at resolving water issues.

Along with this, within the framework of the conference, representatives of the youth public organization Sozandagoni Vatan organized a city-wide action with the distribution of calendars and information leaflets on central streets.
