E-gate to be launched at Manas and Osh airports again

Funds will be allocated from the republican budget this year to re-launch the information system Electronic Gate (e-gate). The head of the Digital Development Department of the Presidential Administration, Azamat Burzhuev, announced on Wednesday at the International PLUS- Forum Digital Kyrgyzstan.

According to him, it is planned to expand the scope of the system. It will appear at the airports of Bishkek and Osh, at Ak-Zhol and Dostuk checkpoints on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh and Kyrgyz-Uzbek borders.

«I used the electronic gates all the time. I specially went to the airport to test the system. We hope that this year the project will work again. But you know that there are border guards, soldiers. It’s a little hard with them. But, I think, by joint efforts and with the support of the IT community, we will be able to convince them that this is necessary,» said Azamat Burzhuev.

The Electronic Gate (e-gate) information system was launched in pilot mode at Manas Airport in December 2017. The system allowed citizens with biometric passports to go through passport control without the participation of Border Service officers. The system was fully operational in August 2018, but the electronic gate stopped working the following year.
