The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has mandated members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to henceforth help in monitoring projects executed in various institutions across the country.
Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arch. Sunny Echono gave the students body the mandate on Monday, while presenting a 30-seater Coaster bus to its leadership in Abuja.
Echono decried the poor hostel accommodation for students, insisting that the Fund would in the near future channel more resources to building conducive ones for them.
He said students were at the core of any development programmes of the new government, hence their interest was also of great concern in its intervention efforts.
While stressing the need for equipping students with skills and rights support, Echono noted that TETFund would like the students to be its eye in various institutions, reporting erring contractors to ensure transparency in the system.
We want to be able to identify on each campus a contact person that will be able to checkmate our projects so that we can have a first hand information, even before sending our team there.
We are doing several engagement with other stakeholders. So, going forward, this will make our monitoring process more transparent.” NANS President, Usman Barambu said they have been doing discret monitoring on behalf of the agency but now that they have the mandate, they will put in thorough checks across campuses to ensure that contractors who handle TETFund projects carry out such projects diligently through regular feedback.
The student body lauded the Fund for donating a 30-seater coaster bus to them, following their request through previous meeting with the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu .
“We are happy to state that our interaction with TETFund is yielding fruits, we are here to thank the Fund and encourage the entire management to do more and more for Nigerian students.”
