Fifth Consultative Meeting of Heads of Central Asian States Will Be Held in Dushanbe

The mandate of the President of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea Emomali Rahmon has been extended for another year. The corresponding decision was signed today by the heads of States of Central Asia following their Fourth Consultative Meeting held in the Kyrgyz Cholpon-Ata.

They supported President Emomali Rahmon’s proposal to hold the Fifth Anniversary Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia on September 14-15, 2023 in Dushanbe simultaneously with the regular meeting of the Council of the Heads of the Founding States of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea.

President Emomali Rahmon was appointed President of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) for three years in November 2019 at the second consultative meeting in Tashkent.

The International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea was established in 1993. Its goal is to improve the socio-economic and environmental situation in the Aral Sea basin. The chairmanship was transferred to Tajikistan by Turkmenistan, which headed the fund in 2017-2019.
