Foreign Ministry: Tajikistan not recognize any government formed without a referendum and representatives of all ethnic groups in Afghanistan

On September 8, 2021, at the suggestion of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the first meeting of the foreign ministers of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries — Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Iran and China — took place in a virtual format.

The ministers stressed the need to promote this format for discussing the current situation in Afghanistan, as a new mechanism for cooperation between neighboring countries.

The sides stressed that the international community, in cooperation with the countries of the region, should play an important role in establishing peace and stability in Afghanistan and provide it with the necessary economic, social and humanitarian assistance.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan noted that an inclusive government with the participation of all ethnic groups and national minorities should work in Afghanistan to urgently resolve the political problems and security of the country. He added that we do not recognize any government formed without a referendum and representatives of all ethnic groups.
