A regular meeting of the Tajik National Cultural Center of Uzbekistan was held on Saturday. Gulandom Subhonova was elected as the new chairman of the Tajik National Cultural Center of Uzbekistan, replacing the poet, philosopher and a lecturer at the Tashkent University of Oriental Studies Jafar Muhammad, who headed the center for two years.
The meeting also adopted a new charter of the center, which will be submitted for approval to the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan.
Subhonova is a native of Syrdarya region, but she is Tajik by nationality. In 1971 she graduated from the Pedagogical Institute with a degree in Russian language and literature. She was repeatedly elected to the Jizzakh regional council and several of its districts. She has worked in various management positions. For the last two years, she has been serving as the deputy chairman of the center.
The Tajik National Cultural Center of Uzbekistan was established in 2008. At present, in addition to the central office, its structure includes six regional branches, including in Kashkadarya, Syrdarya, Namangan, Fergana, Bukhara and Samarkand regions, as well as two city branches — Orieno in Tashkent and Sogdiyon in Chirchik. Among the major projects implemented by the center, one can name the organization of festivals dedicated to the 2700th anniversary of Avesta, the 1150th anniversary of the head of Tajik-Persian literature Abuabdullah Rudaki, the life and work of Abulkasim Firdavsi, Abuali ibni Sino (Avicenna), Jaloliddin Balkhi, Mirsaid Ali Hamadoni, and Sadriddin Ayni. Every year, the center hosts the Day of the Tajik language, poetry readings, meetings with Tajik writers, a competition for the best knowledge of the history and culture of Tajikistan, and a comprehensive competition in the ancient game of our ancestors — chess. The center contributes to the celebration of Navruz, Sada and Mehrgon.
Many famous personalities of Uzbekistan — sons of the Tajik people, such as academician of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, founder of the International School of Young Cosmonauts Shavkat Vohidov, Hero of Uzbekistan, architect from Samarkand Mirumar Asadov and others — collaborate with the center.
