On September 17, 2021, after the official welcoming ceremony, the consideration of issues of development and expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and Pakistan began at a special meeting of Heads of State Emomali Rahmon and Imran Khan, and continued in the wide-ranging talks of official delegations of the two countries.

The issues of cooperation between Tajikistan and Pakistan, issues of bilateral, regional and international relations have been considered at the meeting.

The President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon welcomed the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan to Tajikistan and expressed satisfaction with the level of political relations between Tajikistan and Pakistan, including the high level of political trust between the two countries.

During the meeting special attention was paid to the development of cooperation between Tajikistan and Pakistan in promising sectors of economic and trade relations, light industry, agriculture, science and technology, culture, humanitarian and pharmaceutical sectors.

In order to further expand them, it was considered necessary to continue the effective work of the Tajik-Pakistani Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, holding meetings of the Joint Business Council and attracting investment from the Pakistani business community to the Tajik economy.

It was proposed to establish joint working groups on oil and gas, energy and infrastructure issues to develop and expand cooperation in the energy and oil and gas sectors.

Strengthening cooperation in the transport sector, construction of railways and highways to the seaports of Pakistan-Karachi and Gwadar, the launch of cargo flights between the two countries, was considered an important factor in increasing trade between the two countries.

In order to further develop cooperation in industry, it was proposed to establish joint ventures in Tajikistan on the basis of modern Pakistani machinery and equipment for the processing of cotton fiber, wool and leather to the final product and processing of marble and slag and construction glass.

Tajikistan and Pakistan are cooperating in the fight against global threats - terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and other forms of transnational organized crime.

In connection with the difficult situation in neighboring Afghanistan, President Emomali Rahmon stressed that the Government of Tajikistan welcomes the implementation of all projects necessary for the restoration of stability, economic and social life and security in Afghanistan.

During the meeting the sides also discussed the state of cooperation between the two countries in the framework of regional and international organizations, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
