The spread of COVID-19 around the world and slowing economic growth in many countries, including Tajikistan’s main development partners, have impacted the country’s economic performance. This was said at a meeting of the leadership of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) with the delegations of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB).
The parties discussed issues of further cooperation, in particular, the implementation of various projects aimed at the economic development of Tajikistan.
Chairman of the NBT Hokim Kholikzoda outlined effective cooperation and support of the IMF for the development of Tajikistan’s economy.
Supporting the Tajik budget under the IMF’s Immediate Lending Facility is one of the important measures to reduce the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the country’s economy, in particular on the financial sector.
The parties agreed to approve a new reform program in Tajikistan, as well as to continue the implementation of technical assistance projects in the field of financial stability, and monetary policy for the transition to inflation targeting.
