IT specialists began to pay less

The number of employees of IT companies engaged in software development, as well as consulting in this sector has grown by 11.4% over the past 12 months. At the same time, IT specialists in Azerbaijan have been paid less. According to the State Statistics Committee, 3,739 people are employed in IT companies developing software as of April 1, 2023. Over 12 months, the ranks of programmers have been replenished by 383 qualified specialists at the expense of the private sector. Since April last year, the number of employees in state-owned IT companies has dropped by a quarter, and is 530 people at the beginning of the second quarter of this year. The average monthly nominal salary in software development companies in the first quarter of this year amounted to 1,632.6 manats ($960), which is down by 3.4% from an appropriate period of 2022. Worthy of note is that in state-owned companies, despite an 8.4% decrease in monthly wages year-on-year, its size (2,366.6 manats) is much ahead of figures in private IT companies in Azerbaijan (1,632.6 manats). And this is despite the fact that, according to the SSC calculations, in private IT companies, the average monthly salary grew by 21% year-on-year.
