President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, asserted that “Lebanon will keep pace with the aspirations of the youth and the decisions of the Conference of Arab Youth Sports Ministers and will provide all support for the success of the celebration of the adoption of Beirut as the capital of Arab youth 2022. This will constitute an Arab ministerial view of Lebanon”.

President Aoun’s positions were conveyed by Youth and Sports Minister, George Kallas.

President Aoun had received Minister Kallas who briefed him on the decisions of the Arab Youth and Sports Ministers’ Conference held in Cairo during which Beirut was approved as the capital of Arab youth 2022.

Minister Kallas also briefed the President on the position of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi in support of Lebanon’s civilized role.

Statement:

After the meeting, Minister Kallas made the following statement:

“I visited the President and briefed him on the decisions of the Conference of Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports, which was held in Cairo, during which Beirut was approved as the capital of Arab youth 2022.

I also conveyed that the support Lebanon received with Arab unanimity confirms full solidarity with its concerns and aspirations towards re-establishing and concentrating stability, in a way that secures for this country the conditions of permanent brilliance and that it remains a title of modernity and Arab concord.

This was clearly demonstrated by allocating the dues necessary for the success of this celebration, as well as Iraq’s announcement that it will present what was allocated to Baghdad last year to the Beirut celebration.

In addition, I conveyed to His Excellency the position of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi in support of Lebanon’s civilized dialogue role, and his view of the generational dialogue based on his peace speech at the World Youth Forum.

I thanked President Al-Sisi on behalf of Lebanon for all the moral, material and relief support provided by Egypt to the Lebanese in their economic crises since the explosion of the port, and the assistance it provided, a field hospital, medicine, and aid at an unimaginable level.

President Aoun told me that Lebanon will keep pace with the aspirations of the youth and the decisions of the Council of Arab Youth and Sports Ministers, and will provide all support for the success of this precious occasion, which will constitute an Arab ministerial view of Lebanon”.

Order of Physicians:

President Aoun met the former Head of the Lebanese Order of Physicians in Beirut, Dr. Sharaf Abu Sharaf, and the elected Chairman, Dr. Youssef Bakhash.

General affairs and the suffering of doctors at various levels were tackled.

During the meeting, President Aoun wished Dr. Bakhash success in his new union responsibilities.

After the meeting, Abu Sharaf said: “I visited President Aoun to thank him for the support he gave us with regard to all legal, social and syndicate matters.

Some matters have taken their course under draft laws in the Parliament, such as the immunity of the doctor and the fine and criminalization of anyone who assaults him and the consideration of a deceased doctor with “Corona” pandemic, a martyr benefiting from everything that the army martyrs benefit from. There is a draft law related to guaranteeing the doctor in case of mistakes is still present in the Administration and Justice Committee, in addition to the Lebanese Higher Commission for Specialization, I hope we will be able to bring them to approval with the new Chairman and the Parliament”.

“With regard to the big issues related to the emigration of doctors and problems with banks, we have not yet reached a conclusion about them. Rather, everything we have reached is nothing more than words and promises. I hope that we will be able to achieve what we aspire to in order to motivate doctors to stay in Lebanon, in light of the emigration of 3000 doctors so far” Abu Sharaf continued.

Abu Sharaf concluded “I hope that there will be an effective judiciary that will resolve legal matters quickly. I wish the new Chairman success and complete the message we started with to reach the shore of safety, because the country can no longer tolerate legal, economic and union calamities and people’s hunger in the hope that things will resolve soon so that we can rise up from the current crisis”.

Union of Nurses:

The President met a delegation from the Nurses Syndicate headed by President, Dr. Rima Sassine Kazan.

Dr. Kazan thanked President Aoun for granting him presidential sponsorship for the celebration held by the Syndicate in Lebanon on the occasion of “Nurse's Day”, during which a number of workers in the profession who distinguished themselves over the years were honored. The last three are in one of the four nursing fields: Nursing Administration, Continuing Training, Nursing Care and Research.

The delegation included the director of the Union, Nathalie Richa, and members Kamel Humaidan, Jamal Merhej, Hoda Richa, and Nada Ayoub.

During the meeting, Dr. Kazan presented the suffering experienced by the members of the union, which includes about 2,500 members. Then, a memorandum was submitted containing several demands, most notably:

-Determining the minimum wage for nurses at no less than seven million Lebanese Liras per month, according to a study of the economic, financial and living reality, and according to the scale of the four nursing categories specified in Law 221/ 2021.

-Increasing the transportation allowance in a mobile manner according to the price of gas in order to cover the actual cost of transportation because the increase that was approved recently is not enough with the continuous rise in the price of fuel.

-Requiring hospitals to carry out health insurance supplementary to the benefits provided by the National Social Security Fund.

-Providing psychological and moral support for nurses through the institutions in which they work.

-Establishing mechanisms to protect nurses from violence and for career development within each institution so that the work of nurses is appreciated and encouraged to develop their energies, competencies and specializations for the sake of patients and society.

For his side, President Aoun welcomed the delegation, praising the sacrifices made by nurses, especially during the period when Lebanon witnessed the spread of the Corona pandemic.

The President also emphasized his interest in the nurses’ demands and his quest to achieve them.
