From November 15 through November 18, the Eighth World Congress against the Death Penalty was held in Berlin, within the framework of which the Minister of Justice Muzaffar Ashuriyon met with the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany Annalena Baerbock.

Baerbock noted that bilateral relations would expand in the future.

Ashuriyon spoke in detail about the achievements of Tajikistan in the field of humanization of criminal legislation after the announcement of a moratorium on the death penalty by the President Emomali Rahmon in 2004. The moratorium, which came into force from the moment of its announcement, is not limited to any period and is valid for an indefinite period.

He noted that Tajikistan, along with 123 countries, supported the adoption of the UN common complex resolution of December 16, 2020 “Moratorium on the use of the death penalty.”

The World Congress Against the Death Penalty is the largest activist platform that brings together over 1,000 participants from 90 countries.
