The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan has refuted information disseminated by a number of Kyrgyz media that passport control has been tightened against ethnic Kyrgyzs in the Lakhsh district.
The ministry called the information unreliable and untrue.
“The facts given in the Kyrgyz media do not correspond to reality. Ethnic Kyrgyzs with dual citizenship do indeed live in the Lakhsh district. However, there was no tightening of passport control and the expulsion of Kyrgyz citizens,” said the ministry’s Spokesman Nusrat Mahmadzoda.
He urged the media not to escalate the already difficult situation and not to disseminate unverified information.
