Monkeypox and Metapneumovirus Infections Remain Absent in Tajikistan

Dushanbe: 'A monkeypox and metapneumovirus infection heretofore have not been detected and registered in the territory of Tajikistan', announced the country's Minister of Health and Social Protection of Population Jamoliddin Abdullozoda, during a press conference.

According to National Information Agency of Tajikistan, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection in cooperation with WHO has purchased tests to detect monkeypox, and all laboratories are ready to detect the disease. The country has 17 laboratories that are equipped to detect all types of viruses, as well as a sefinator, an instrument used to determine the genotypes of viruses.

Regarding metapneumovirus infection, which has been reported in many countries this season, a study was conducted involving 715 hospitalized patients with symptoms of respiratory tract infection, and not a single case of metapneumovirus was detected. However, adenovirus and rotavirus infections were identified, as noted by the Minister.

The study of the epidemiological situation with infectious diseases in the republic in 2024 showed that diseases such as smallpox, plague, cholera, leptospirosis, measles, and poliomyelitis were not recorded.
