Yesterday, National Assembly Speaker, Dushanbe Chairman Rustam Emomali met with his Korean counterpart Park Byeong-seug, who arrived in Dushanbe yesterday.
The meeting was also attended by expanded delegations of the Tajik and Korean National Assemblies.
The parties expressed satisfaction with the positive process of developing friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and Korea, and reaching a new level of inter-parliamentary relations.
It was emphasized that strengthening inter-parliamentary ties is an effective tool for developing bilateral cooperation in national interests, and at this stage it is advisable to activate friendship and cooperation groups of the both assemblies.
Emomali paid special attention to strengthening the activities of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation and holding its next meeting in Dushanbe.
While considering Tajikistan’s natural resources and the huge potential in the agricultural, mining, hydropower sectors, and the favorable investment climate in the country’s free economic zones, the Tajik side expressed interest in attracting direct investment from Korean companies to establish mutually beneficial cooperation.
Additionally, they comprehensively reviewed the state of cooperation and ties between the two countries in the field of cultural, humanitarian, scientific and technical cooperation, including the issues of increasing grants for the training of Tajik students in higher educational institutions in Korea, establishing practical cooperation in the field of labor migration, testablishming an office of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOIKA) in Dushanbe, and other important issues for the development of bilateral relations.
Along with this, the parties discussed ensuring security and strengthening a stable situation in the region, further development in Afghanistan, coordination of joint actions in the fight against terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, as well as other transnational threats.
