Yesterday, during the 41st session of the UNESCO General Conference, in accordance with the recommendations of the Executive Board of UNESCO and Decision 41 C/15 of the General Conference, the nomination of Tajikistan for the 2500th anniversary of the ancient town of Takhti Sangin and the joint nomination of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Iran on the 1050th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding scholar of the East Abu Rayhan Biruni have been included into the list of anniversaries celebrated in association with UNESCO in 2022-2023.

Takhti Sangin is one of the most valuable monuments of pre-Islamic history and culture of Tajiks.

The Takhti Sangin monument is located in the Kubodiyon district of Tajikistan, at the confluence of the Panj and Vakhsh rivers. This unique monument was presented to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2009.

The Takhti Sangin is better known as the Treasure of the Amu Darya, or Jewel of the Ox, which consists of paintings, jewels, gold and silver coins. In 1877 a list of rare paintings was purchased by the merchants. These unique specimens of the Tajik people are housed in the British National Museum in London.
