Paris: Paris 2024 bronze medalist Hasrat Jafarov has expressed concerns over the rapid deterioration of his Olympic medal, considering returning it due to rusting issues. The Azerbaijani wrestler, who secured a bronze in Greco-Roman wrestling, shared his dissatisfaction, stating that the medal's quality declined just three days after the tournament concluded.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Jafarov highlighted that upon returning home, he was questioned about the condition of the medal by those who greeted him. The medal, which was awarded only three days prior, was already showing signs of damage, with its color fading and rust appearing. The situation has worsened over time, leading him to contemplate returning the medal if assured of receiving a replacement of higher quality.
Jafarov is not alone in this dilemma, as more than 100 athletes globally have sent their medals back to the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games Organizing Committee, citing similar concerns about poor quality.
