The President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon called to draw the attention of the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to possible threats.
“The CSTO needs to be ready for the development of various scenarios on the southern borders,” he said on May 16 at the CSTO heads of state summit in Moscow.
He added that it is important for the member countries of the Organization to step up efforts to protect external borders.
Tajik President drew attention to the situation in neighboring Afghanistan, which has only worsened in recent decades. He noted that the existing extensive legal base and mechanisms of the Organization make it possible to solve all the tasks set.
Rahmon also noted that now the collective security systems are constantly being strengthened. All this, according to him, allows maintaining a high level of combat readiness.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, touching on this topic, said that in the fall of 2022, the CSTO would hold a series of military exercises. Thus, the exercises will be organized in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
“We will also deal with the issues of equipping the collective forces of the CSTO with modern weapons and equipment, increasing the operational compatibility of their military contingents, and improving the coherence of the joint actions of our military structures,” Putin said.
