DUSHANBE, Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa of Bahrain has been reelected as president of the Asian Football Confederation, reported the Football Federation of Tajikistan.
The elections were held during the AFC congress, which took place in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.
Al-Khalifa led the AFC since May 2013 when he was elected for the remaining term of its former president Mohammed bin Hammam, who was banned from all football activities by FIFA for corruption. Al Khalifa will serve until 2023. Concurrently, he also serves as the FIFA Vice President for Asia.
The congress agenda also included the election of AFC vice-presidents, members of the AFC Executive Committee and the FIFA Council.
Du Zhaocai (China), Praful Patel (India), Kohzo Tashima (Japan), Mariano V. Araneta (Philippines), Saoud Aziz Al-Mohannadi (Qatar) and Mahfuza Akhter Kiron (Bangladesh) were chosen as FIFA advisors from the AFC. Together with the AFC President Al Khalifa, the AFC will have seven members serving at the FIFA Council.
The First Vice-President of the Football Federation of Tajikistan Khurshed Mirzo, Vice-President of the Football Federation of Tajikistan Alisher Urunov and the general secretary of the Football Federation of Tajikistan Davlatmand Islomov represented Tajikistan at the AFC Congress
