Today Russian President Vladimir Putin will arrive in Tajikistan to meet with President Emomali Rahmon.

Speaking about the format of the talks, representatives of the press services of the heads of the two states specified that the leaders will meet tet-a-tet.

This will be Putin’s second foreign visit this year. In February, he visited China, where the Olympic and Paralympic Games were held.

On May 16, the counterparts held talks in Moscow as part of the anniversary CSTO summit. Additionally, the presidents are in regular contact by phone. This year there have already had six such conversations.

President Putin’s latest visit to Tajikistan took place three years ago. He took part in the summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia held in June 2019 in Dushanbe.

He was also supposed to visit Dushanbe in September last year to attend the summits of two international associations in the capital of Tajikistan, namely the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. However, shortly before the trip, he was forced to self quarantine due to contacts with those infected with the coronavirus.

Russia ranks first among Tajikistan’s foreign trade partners. Dushanbe and Moscow are actively and effectively developing relations in many areas.
