11 May 2018, Dushanbe � The United Nations and the Government of Tajikistan today presented the preliminary findings of a multiagency initiative to produce the first ever Resilience and Vulnerability Atlas of Tajikistan (Atlas). The workshop gathered different government and nongovernment stakeholders to review the progress made to date and to validate the findings.

The Atlas aims to provide disaggregated data about resilience and various vulnerabilities affecting Tajikistan, which would lead to better allocation of resources, budgets and ensure inclusion of vulnerable groups to the development process and more effective implementation of the National Development Strategy (NDS 2016 2030) and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Over the past six months the working group, led by the World Food Programme as well as other UN agencies, the World Bank and the European Union, in close collaboration with respective sectorial ministries, identified a set of indicators, reflecting various vulnerabilities in the country.

In his opening remarks, the Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mr. Jurazoda Tojiddin, stressed the importance of Resilience and Vulnerability Atlas results that will contribute to the ongoing monitoring process of NDS and SDG implementation.

Dr. Pratibha Mehta, UN Resident Coordinator in Tajikistan noted that the Atlas will inform evidencebased policies, strategies and programming for various sectors and issues, including economic wellbeing, food security, nutrition, health and education. She said that it will also help in targeting vulnerable population and locations, and assist in allocation of financial resources.
