Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has extended condolences to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan over a deadly quake that jolted the eastern Turkish province of Elazig late Friday, according to the Tajik president's official website.
Tajik leader, in particular, note in his message of condolences that tit was so sad to hear about devastating loss of life in the devastating earthquake in friendly Turkey.
Emomali Rahmon expressed his sincere condolences to families and relative of those killed in the earthquake.
At least 29 people were killed and 1,466 others were injured after a massive earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 rocked the eastern Turkish province of Elazig late Friday, also causing damage in neighboring Malatya province.
According to Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the quake struck Elazig's Sivrice district at 8:55 p.m. (1755 GMT) from a depth of 6.7 kilometers. The aftershocks were felt in many regions of the country and also in Israel, Iraq and Syria, according to the data reported by Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority.
It is not the first quake Turkey has observed in 2020. A 5.4-magnitude quake jolted the western province of Manisa on January 22, and Ankara was rattled by a 4.5-magnitude quake on January 23.
In 2010, the Elazig province was hit by a 6.0-magnitude earthquake, killing 51 people.
