Reconstruction of the Road from Kalai-Khumb to Rushon Gates Officially Started

The reconstruction of the road from Kalai-Khumb to the Rushon Gates has commenced, reports the Office of the Chairman of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region.

The official opening ceremony of was attended by the Minister of Transport Azim Ibrohim and the Chairman of GBAO Alisher Mirzonabot.

The road is 110 km long.

The governmental working group also visited difficult sections of the Darvoz-Khorug highway in Vanj and Rushon districts.

IThe length of the Kalai Khumb-Vanj section is currently 109 km, but the construction of two tunnels is planned to reduce it to 90 km.

The reconstruction involves the construction of a two-lane road, two tunnels (5.2 km long), a gallery with a total length of 490 meters, 15 bridges (634 meters), and other facilities.

According to the preliminary estimates of the Ministry of Transport, the reconstruction of the Rushon-Khorug section (length 163 km) will require $200 million, and the Khorug-Kulma section (length 395 km) — $567 million.
