On September 23 in Warsaw, the head of the Department of Monitoring Compliance with the Law in Internal Affairs Bodies and Drug Control of the General Prosecutor's Office of Tajikistan Sharif Kurbonzoda gave a speech at the Human Dimension Implementation Meeting (HDIM) of OSCE participating states dedicated to the rule of law, prevention of torture, abolition of capital punishment, protection of human rights and the fight against terrorism, reported the Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The government of Tajikistan pays great attention to the process of fulfilling its human rights obligations, including the recommendations of the Committee Against Torture, as well as adopted National Plan of Action to implement the recommendations of the UN Committee Against Torture for the period 2019 2022, Kurbonzoda noted.
The session's participants were also briefed about the soon to be created independent monitoring group for restricted places such as prisons, which includes only representatives of the Commissioners for Human Rights, civil society institutions and independent specialists (medical workers, lawyers, psychologists).
Tajikistan has ratified numerous international legal acts that regulate issues of respect for human rights in the context of the fight against terrorism, Kurbonzoda stated.
It was noted that the work on combating extremism and terrorism was organized considering the National Strategy on Combating Extremism and Terrorism for 2016 2020 and the Action Plan for the implementation of this strategy, which have been approved on November 12, 2016 by a presidential decree.
