SOCAR trading house - "SOCAR trading" has been granted a 10-year license for gas trade in Bulgaria, Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) reported on 12 May.
"The Bulgarian energy and water regulatory commission has issued a license to SOCAR for gas trading," BNR noted.
As an informed source explained to Turan, the point is that "SOCAR trading" will be able to sell gas from different sources to consumers in Bulgaria.
"Primarily, it will be liquefied natural gas from different countries. However, it is not ruled out that also some volumes of pipeline gas from Azerbaijan could be used to raise gas supplies", the source said.
Bulgaria's demand for gas is 3 billion cubic meters a year, one third of which will be covered by Azerbaijan (gas from "Shah Deniz") from 2023.
On the whole, Bulgaria has been receiving Azeri gas since 2021. Supplies in 2022 were 600 million cubic metres and in 2023 will peak at 1 billion cubic metres.
Bulgaria began receiving LNG from the US in 2023.
Previously, the Balkan country was fully dependent on Russian gas, but gave it up a year ago.
