DUSHANBE, 21.08.2017 /NIAT Khovar/. Tajik youth athlete Somon Mahmadbekov won gold medal in the weight category of 66 kg among U-21 at the Junior European Judo Cup in Arad of Romania.

According to the National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan, Somon after winning over Ukrainian and German athletes Konstantin Notkin and Alexandr Gabler, defeated another Ukrainian athlete Caro Marandiyan in semi-finals. Tajik athlete Somon Mahmadbeko having defeated one more Ukrainian athlete Oleg Ovcharenko in the final battle, won gold medal.

This tournament was attended by 248 athletes (156 boys and 92 girls) from 33 countries. Only one athlete � Somon Mahmadbekov � has represented Tajikistan.

We will recall that Somon Mahmadbekov also won gold medal at the Cadet African Judo Championship that was held in Tunis on April 22-23 this year.

Somon Mahmadbekov, a Tajik athlete living in Russian, currently trains under the guidance of the coaches Ergash and Foteh Mahmadbekovs in Irkutsk city. He represents Tajikistan at the international competitions. Thanks to the victory of Somon at European Cup in Romania, the State Flag of Tajikistan was erected and the national anthem of the country was sounded.
