Speech by the Minister of Foreign Affairs at the General Political Debates of the 41st Session of the UNESCO General Conference

On November 11, 2021 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, Chairman of the National Commission of the Republic of Tajikistan for UNESCO Sirodjidin Muhriddin addressed the general political debates of the 41st session of the UNESCO General Conference in Paris.

At the beginning of his speech, S. Muhriddin thanked the Director-General of UNESCO Odri Azule for the hospitality and the high level of the next General Conference of the Organization.

The head of the Tajik delegation stressed that the forum is a study, exchange of experience and coordination of joint efforts of UNESCO and its member states to promote the goals and objectives related to the protection of national values - culture and language, historical, cultural and natural monuments, traditions and customs. education will serve as a useful platform.

He spoke about the status of Tajikistan as a sovereign state and an equal member of the world community, especially its domestic and foreign policy achievements during the country's independence, the country's extensive activities in the framework of UNESCO through the implementation of national, regional and international scientific and cultural projects. Education, Tajikistan's contribution to the protection and promotion of world cultural and natural heritage, targeted cooperation to strengthen peace, stability and sustainable development of all countries of the world through an effective partnership within the mandate of UNESCO. It was stressed that UNESCO is the only organization that actively calls for and takes practical steps to unite and unite through culture, science and education in a difficult time for the world community.

S. Muhriddin noted that the natural site "National Park of Tajikistan", the ancient town of Sarazm, the national music "Shashmaqom", the International Day of Navruz, the national dish "Oshi Palav" and the national costume "Chakan" are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

At the same time, the high level of cooperation between the country and UNESCO in the context of the 30th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan, especially in connection with the celebration of the Day of Culture of Tajikistan in UNESCO (October 14, 2021) with the Founder of Peace His Excellency Emomali Rahmon and the Director-General of UNESCO Odri Azule, as well as a unique exhibition of historical artifacts entitled "Tajikistan - the land of golden rivers" at the National Museum of Asian Art "Guime" in Paris (October 13, 2021 to January 10, 2022). was delighted.

At the end of his speech, the Tajik side spoke about the country's active role in promoting water and climate issues within the UN system, including the UNESCO Intergovernmental Program on Hydrology, as well as to support Tajikistan's initiative to declare 2025 as the International Year for Glacier Protection. glaciers and the importance of the establishment of the International Glacier Fund.

Referring to the current worrying situation in Afghanistan, the Foreign Minister reiterated Tajikistan's support for UNESCO's role in preserving the country's historical heritage and reiterated Tajikistan's appeal to the international community, especially to the countries concerned, to provide humanitarian assistance as soon as possible. the suffering people of Afghanistan through international organizations.
