On the sidelines of the 12th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization in Geneva, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan Zavki Zavkizoda met with the Executive Director of the International Trade Center (ITC) Pamela Coke-Hamilton.

The meeting focused on issues related to the implementation of ITC projects in Tajikistan.

Zavkizoda noted that the necessary measures have been taken to implement the goals and priorities identified by President Emomali Rahmon in expanding foreign trade, strengthening export potential, diversifying exports and simplifying trade procedures.

“In particular, the Coordinating Committee for Trade Facilitation was established, the State Program for the Development of Exports of Tajikistan for 2021-2025, the Medium-Term Program of the Digital Economy of Tajikistan for 2021-2025, Single Window for Registration of Export-Import and Transit Operations, Trade Portal Tajikistan, the contribution of the ITC to their development and implementation is significant,” he said.

The parties also discussed the implementation of the Ready4Trade projects in Central Asia and the Global Textile and Clothing Program (GTEX) project implemented through the ITC in the countries of the region, as well as achievements and priority areas for further cooperation. Given the existing opportunities for cooperation, Coke-Hamilton noted the need to increase the number of projects in Tajikistan that contribute to the achievement of the goals set out in the country’s strategic documents.

She welcomed the direct support of the government in the framework of projects implemented in Tajikistan and participation in the multilateral trading system.

Coke-Hamilton also expressed her readiness to develop relations in this area, increase the export of agricultural products from Tajikistan through the financing of development partners.

The parties expressed their readiness to expand mutually beneficial cooperation.
