Tajikistan and Japan Expand Customs Cooperation

Strengthening cooperation in the field of customs activities between Tajikistan and Japan was discussed at the meeting of the head of the Customs Service under the Government of Tajikistan Khurshed Karimzoda and the Japanese Ambassador to Tajikistan Toshihiro Aiki.

The meeting also focused on issues related to the growth of foreign trade turnover between Tajikistan and Japan, training and retraining of employees of the Customs Service, and the draft agreement on the arrival of Japanese volunteers in Tajikistan.

Karimzoda noted that mutually beneficial cooperation between the customs authorities of the two countries is based on multilateral legal documents of the World Trade Organization and the World Customs Organization.

He expressed his opinion on strengthening bilateral cooperation with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which since August 2006 has been making a significant contribution to the development of the social sphere in Tajikistan.
