Tajikistan Market Situation Update #12 (April 11-12, 2022)

Highlights

Compared to last week, the prices of most monitored food commodities remained stable during the reporting period, although still above the price levels before the notable spikes at the start of March, which were attributed to the Ukraine conflict outbreak.

The average prices of potatoes (-2%), onions (-5%), carrots (3%), cabbage (-5%) and other vegetables decreased compared to the previous week due to seasonal factors influencing prices, especially in Khatlon markets due to the start of new harvest leading to greater availability of these food commodities.

Compared to the average retail prices of March 2022, prices of some food commodities remained high. Prices of wheat flour, rice, milk and eggs are high by +1%, +7%, +2% and +7% respectively.

Prices of petrol (-1%) and diesel (-1%) have continued to decline in the current reporting period compared to last week. Also, the current average prices of both commodities are lower by -6% and -3% compared to the average prices of March 2022 respectively.

Compared to March 2022, the skilled wage labour rates were observed to have increased by 10%-29% in some markets including Dushanbe, Gharm, Istaravshan, Jayhun, Kulob and Panjakent while unskilled wage rates increased by 17%-40% in Bokhtar, Dushanbe, Gharm, Istaravshan, Jayhun, Khujand, Kulob and Panjakent.
