The Statistical Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) provided information on the situation with COVID-19 in the CIS according to WHO.
The Committee noted that the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has become a serious challenge to the health care system of all countries of the world. The situation in the CIS member states was no exception.
According to the WHO, as of March 1, 2021, since the beginning of 2020, 114.6 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been registered worldwide, out of which more than 2.5 million people have died.
During the same period, 6.7 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been registered in the CIS countries, and the number of deaths due to this reason was 0.1 million.
Among the CIS countries, Tajikistan is in first place in terms of the small number of COVID-19 infections. The second and third places are taken by Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. More COVID-19 cases were registered in Armenia, Moldova and Ukraine.
The data showed that in 2020 for the Commonwealth the mortality rate is 11.6 deaths per 1000 population. Compared with the average for the previous four years — 10.1 deaths per 1000 people — the increase in the CIS as a whole amounted to almost 15 percent.
