The delegation of Tajikistan headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin attended the meetings of the Ministerial Councils of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) yesterday in Bishkek.
The meetings were chaired by the Kyrgyz side. President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov received the heads of delegations of the SCO member states, reported the Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The SCO Ministerial Council Meeting was held in the first half of Wednesday, during which the parties discussed the implementation of previously reached agreements and preparations for the upcoming meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council.
In his speech, Muhriddin outlined Tajikistan's position on key aspects of cooperation within the SCO, as well as spoke on topical regional and international issues.
On the afternoon of May 22, Muhriddin attended the CSTO Ministerial Council Meeting.
Following the meeting with the President of Kyrgyzstan Sootonbay Jeenbekov, CSTO foreign ministers discussed topical issues of the international and regional security agenda, the interaction of the CSTO member states in the Organization format and in the international arena, countering international terrorism and extremism, as well as other issues of mutual interest.
While speaking at the CSTO Ministerial Council Meeting, Muhriddin outlined Tajikistan's position on the agenda issues and highlighted the unstable situation on the southern borders of the CSTO's area of responsibility, particularly in neighboring Afghanistan, and the need to consolidate efforts to more effectively counter terrorism and extremism, as well as minimize the threats emanating from the southern borders of the Organization.
