Thomas Tuchel takes helm at England national football team

German coach Thomas Tuchel has taken the helm at the England national football team, Anadolu Agency reported citing the English Football Association (FA). The 51-year-old became the third non-British manager of England after Swede Sven-Goran Eriksson (2001-2006) and Italian Fabio Capello (2008-2011). Following former English head coach Gareth Southgate's resignation after EURO 2024 in July, Lee Carsley had been in charge of the national team as a temporary coach. Tuchel worked for French Ligue 1 powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain to win back-to-back French league titles in 2019 and 2020. Under his leadership, Paris Saint-Germain advanced to the 2020 Champions League final in Lisbon, but lost to Bayern Munich. Tuchel also led Chelsea to win a UEFA Champions League title, Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup, then moved to German club Bayern Munich to clinch the 2022-23 Bundesliga title with them.
