Five preconference oday, as part of the Second High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action «Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028,” which will be held from June 6 through June 9 in Dushanbe.

The Youth and Children’s Water Forum is being held in the Kokhi Navruz complex in the Didor Hall, with over 200 participants from 33 countries taking part in person and 900 people connecting online.

The Women’s Water Forum on the theme «Fair Diversity and Inclusion — Water Unites Us» began its work in the Kohi Vahdat.

Also, the «Central Asian Forum — Regional Water Cooperation,» «Water Forum of Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples» and «Water and Mountains on the Path to Sustainable Development» will begin today.

In the evening, the Dushanbe Water Festival will be held in the capital’s Navruzgoh Park of Culture and Leisure.

About 2,000 dignitaries, politicians, scientists, experts representing national governments, the UN and its agencies, international and regional organizations, financial institutions, academic institutions, civil society, including women and youth, are registered to participate in the Dushanbe Water Conference.

The progress achieved during the implementation of the International Decade for Action, in eliminating existing problems and obstacles for achieving the goals, stimulating and accelerating actions and partnerships to achieve the water goals of the 2030 Development Agenda will be the main issues discussed during the conference.

The Dushanbe Conference will be a key milestone in preparation for the UN Conference on the Midterm Review of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development 2018-2028,” which will be held in March 2023 in New York, co-chaired by Tajikistan and the Netherlands. The New York Conference is expected to be historic not only in terms of time (for the first time after almost 50 years) but also in terms of delivering results, marking a turning point in accelerating action for achieving the water goals.
