Turkmenistan sees significant partner in SCO

ASHGABAT: Turkmenistan sees the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as a significant and promising partner, Trend reports. This was stated by Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, at the meeting of heads of delegations in the SCO+ format in Astana. "Turkmenistan, which has participated as an honorary guest in the meetings of the organization not for the first time, perceives this status as a sign of respect and an indicator of a high level of trust and openness to our country, the desire to develop close partnerships with it," he said. Such an approach fully meets Turkmenistan's intentions, Berdimuhamedov noted, emphasizing that cooperation with the SCO meets national interests, can significantly and positively influence the course and direction of regional processes, and contributes to the stabilization of the international situation. "Our country has deep historical ties, geographical proximity, common values, and a worldview with the people and states that are members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and work with it. Today, this is complemented by mutual interest in the economy, trade, investment, and technology," he added. To note, a meeting of the SCO Council was held on July 4, at which the leaders of the member states discussed important issues of multilateral and multi-vector cooperation in the organization's format, as well as issues of regional and international policy.
