Moscow: Russia has been informed by the United States that it can proceed with appointing its new ambassador to Washington, as announced by a senior Russian lawmaker on state television. The development marks a significant step in diplomatic relations between the two countries.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Grigory Karasin, who heads the International Affairs Committee in the Federation Council, Russia's upper house of parliament, revealed that the formal appointment of the new ambassador could occur in the coming weeks. However, Karasin did not disclose the name of the new ambassador. The position has been vacant since October when Anatoly Antonov, the last Russian ambassador to the US, left his post.
