DUSHANBE,  Despite the fact that there are no coronavirus cases registered in the country, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population in collaboration with development partners is taking a number of necessary preventive measures. The laboratories that diagnose coronavirus in Tajikistan, as well as the level of specialist knowledge and the quality of diagnosis meet international requirements. This was said by WHO Country Manager for Tajikistan Galina Perfilieva during a training seminar for journalists on coronavirus, which took place in Dushanbe on April 17-18.

According to her, all medical workers involved in diagnosing coronavirus have completed training courses abroad, and tests carried out by them are submitted to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population and the WHO.

“Until April 16, 2,317 tests were conducted in the Tajik laboratories, of which 440 were repeats,” said Perfilieva.

She also noted that medical institutions are ready for the possible emergence of coronavirus, and urged the media to publish only official information.

Testing for coronavirus is carried out only for those people who exhibit certain symptoms, such as high fever, dry cough, chest pain and sore throat.

The seminar was organized by the initiative of the Press Center of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population in collaboration with the UN Children’s Fund in Tajikistan in order to increase the level of knowledge of journalists on covering issues related to the coronavirus.
