Hostile statement by Ukrainian politician can change Iran’s strategy towards the war in Ukraine

Referring to Iran's principled position towards the war in Ukraine and repeatedly emphasizing the necessity of stopping the military conflict and resolving the conflict through dialogue, the source said: "While the government of Ukraine has accused Iran of providing arms support to Russia during the Ukraine war by inciting its Western partners based on false statements, it has not yet been able to provide any documents to prove its claim."

Referring to Iran's repeated pursuits to hold a joint meeting with the Ukrainian side, this informed official said: "In the last joint meeting held between the political and military experts of the two countries in Qatar, the Ukrainian side did not present any documents to prove the claim of Iran's arms support to Russia, and it was agreed that the documents will be presented in the next meetings."

The source reportedly considered the implied acceptance of Ukraine's involvement in attacking several small UAVs on a facility of the Ministry of Defense in Isfahan by Zelensky's adviser, as a responsible and legal admission and emphasized: "Ukraine's emphasis on the threat to Iran's national security can be the basis for examining the change of positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the war in Ukraine and adopting a new approach that is appropriate to the behavior of the Kyiv government."

Tasnim news agency reported on January 31 that the director of the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s political department for Eurasia on January 30 summoned the charge d’affaires of Ukraine’s embassy in Tehran in protest at the “outlandish and biased” comments that a Ukrainian presidential adviser has made about the recent terrorist attack against a military site in Isfahan.

The Ukrainian diplomat reportedly was given an official letter of protest and was urged to ask for the Ukrainian government’s official and immediate explanation.

The Ukrainian charge d’affaires expressed hope that the Ukrainian authorities would not repeat such comments, saying he will convey Iran’s protest to his government immediately and submit the response to the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to Tasnim news agency.

On January 29, Mykhailo Podolyak reportedly took to Twitter to mock Iran after a recent drone attack on a military facility in Isfahan, saying that "Ukraine did warn you."

“War logic is inexorable and murderous. It bills the authors and accomplices strictly. Panic in RF - endless mobilization, missile defense in Moscow, trenches 1000 km away, bomb shelters preparation. Explosive night in Iran - drone and missile production, oil refineries. Ukraine did warn you,” he said.

Recall, Iran’s Defense Ministry announced on January 29 that the country's air defense units have foiled a drone attack on a defense industrial complex in the central province of Isfahan. The explosion reportedly left some damage, but fortunately there were no casualties.

According to Iran’s Defense Ministry, there was an unsuccessful attack by small drones; one of them struck, while the air defense system of the complex was able to destroy two other drones.

Mykhailo Podolyak (born February 16, 1972) is a Ukrainian politician, journalist and negotiator, serving as the adviser to the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Podolyak spent his childhood in Lviv and Novovolynsk.

From 1989, he lived in Belarus, and graduated from the Minsk Medical Institute. In 2004, Podolyak was deputy editor-in-chief of the opposition Belarusian newspaper Vremya. In June 2004, he was deported from Belarus. The Belarusian authorities accused him that his activities "contradict the interests of state security", and the materials contain "slanderous fabrications about the real situation in the country, calls to destabilize the political situation in Belarus."

In Ukraine, Podolyak was the editor-in-chief of Ukrainska Hazeta in 2005. In December 2011, he became the editor-in-chief of Ukrainian internet publication, Obozrevatel.

In April 2020, Podolyak became an adviser to Andriy Yermak, the head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, and an “anti-crisis manager” of the Office. He reportedly controls the entire information policy of the Office of the President and advises Volodymyr Zelenskyy directly. In addition, he prepares ministers of the Ukrainian government for broadcasts in the media so that their theses are coordinated with the content promoted by the president.

Residents Kulob demand a fair investigation into the death of a local resident after arrest by police

Kulob Mayor Bakhtiyor Nazarzoda reportedly went out to the demonstrators and said that “Investigation is ongoing until nothing concrete is known.”

One of close relatives of Roziqov told Radio Ozodi that officials from Kulob police department and local offices of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) had also talked to the demonstrators.

Recall, a 37-year-old Abduqahhor Roziqov was detained in the city of Kulob Ozodi on the night of January 2 to January 3 on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking.

Roziqov had previously been sentenced to 12 years in prison on drug charges but was subsequently released in an amnesty. As a condition of his release, he had to register weekly with the Interior Ministry’s office in Kulob.

Two hours after Roziqov was taken away by police, his relatives received a call instructing them to retrieve his body from the morgue.

The Interior Ministry released a statement on January 3 to claim that Roziqov had succumbed to an amphetamine overdose. The man died as he was being transported from his home to a police precinct, it said.

Meanwhile, Abduqahhor’s relatives say he died as a result of torture by the police officers who carried out the arrest.

Relatives have demanded an independent medical examination to ascertain cause of death. Media reports say a group of around 10 of Roziqov’s relatives gathering outside the Kulob morgue to demand that those responsible be punished.

Radio Ozodi reported later that criminal proceedings have bene instituted against one of three policemen detained over the death of Abduqahhor Roziqov.

Kulob prosecutor’s office has reportedly instituted criminal proceedings against Kulob police department officer Shamshod Sharifov under the provisions of Article 316 (3) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – abuse of power.

This article prescribes punishment in the form of a fine of up to 100,000 somonis or an imprisonment for a term of five to ten years.

An official source within the Kulob prosecutor’s office told Radio Ozodi on January 12 on the basis of anonymity that two other police officers – Zafar Kholov and Jamshed Karomatov – have been released on bail.

Tajik leader condemns terrorist attack in Peshawar, extends condolences to the families of the victims

The message of condolences reads: “The tragic news of the death and injury of a large number of citizens of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan as a result of a suicide terrorist act in one of the mosques of Peshawar has greatly saddened us.

“We strongly condemn this oppressive act of terrorism, we express our deep sympathy and condolences to you, the relatives of the deceased and all the brotherly people of Pakistan, and we wish for the full recovery of all the injured.”

Mass media reports say at least 60 people, including 27 police official, were killed on Monday as a suicide bomber blew himself up inside a crowded mosque in Peshawar.

The attacker reportedly appeared to have passed through several barricades manned by security forces to get into the “Red Zone” compound that houses police and counter-terrorism offices in the northwestern city of Peshawar.

CNN reports that Pakistan authorities say an investigation is underway, and have not confirmed either claim.

Tajikistan Judo Federation Presents Its New Logo

Tajikistan Judo Federation presented its new logo on January 26.

The circle of the logo is reportedly adorned with golden lines, with the hope that Tajik judokas will win gold medals in international competitions.

The inner part of the logo is decorated with blue, which from the point of view of psychology means inviolability, and in history is one of the characteristic colors of the Aryan peoples.

Seven stars adorn the upper part of the logo in a semicircle. In traditional Tajik culture, the number «seven» is a symbol of success, perfection, the embodiment of happiness and virtue.

From the ancient belief of the Tajiks, it goes back that “seven stars,” “seven towers” show the paths of success, seven historical, cultural and sports regions of modern Tajikistan.

The center of the logo is decorated with Tajik ornaments, which are the embodiment of national and historical traditions.

The most important and visible part of the logo is the fight between two wrestlers, which is a typical presentation of wrestling sports, especially judo. It also expresses one of the ancient traditions of the Tajik people — the gushtingiri wrestling, which is one of the types of courage and valor.

Ministerial semiannual news conferences starting today

Heads of ministries and agencies of Tajikistan as well as heads of provinces and cities are beginning to give news conferences on the results of the past year’s work today.

The state-run news agency Khovar says the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Culture and the Communications Service under the Government of Tajikistan are giving news conferences today.

The news conferences reportedly run through February 17 and the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Finance, the Prosecutor-General’s Office and the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption under the President of Tajikistan will give news conferences on February 17.

Recall, President Emomali Rahmon on March 4, 2005 signed a decree obligating ministers, department heads, and local officials to give quarterly news conferences.

But by president’s decree issued in September 2011, ministers, department heads, and local authorities now give news conferences only twice a year – in January and July.

The decree also notes that in case of necessity, ministers and department heads may give news conferences several times a month.

Communications service agency promises to lower Internet prices

The Communications Service under the Government of Tajikistan plans to improve Internet speed and cut its cost, Ilhom Atoyev, deputy head of the Communications Service, told reporters in Dushanbe on January 30.

According to him, the communications service agency intends to deal with this issue on the basis of the instruction of the head of state to develop the communications sector, make high-speed Internet available in all regions of the country, lower Internet service prices and attract investment in this sector.

It is to be noted that president Emomali Rahmon had earlier expressed dissatisfaction with low quality and speed of Internet in the country.

In his address to a joint meeting of both chamber of parliament, Rahmon noted on December 23 that the development of the communication industry, in particular, the high speed and affordable price of Internet, is important in advancing the digital economy, artificial intellect, information security, mobilizing investment and creating innovative technological parks.

“Currently, there are 4.5 million Internet subscribers in the country, which corresponds to 45 subscribers per 100 residents. However, I emphasize that the speed and cost of the Internet are still not satisfactory,” said the president. “In this manner, the Communications Service is mandated to take the necessary measures together with mobile communications operators to improve the quality and reduce the cost of mobile and Internet services, and make high-speed Internet available in all regions of the country, including remote areas.”

Subsequently, with a view to creating a modern legal framework to address the abovementioned issues, the relevant agencies are mandated to develop and submit to the Government the revised law on electrical communications, based on the progress and developments in this field on a global scale, the head of state added.

Communications Service deputy head, Ilhom Atoyev, noted today that a standing commission comprising relevant experts and engineers has been set up.

“The Communications Service jointly with mobile communications companies worked out a specific development plan. The Communications Service specialists are currently engaged in studying the issue of Internet coverage of the regions,” Atoyev said.

According to him, the communications service agency head Beg Zuhur is currently on a business trip in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) to determine the quality of the Internet there

Atoyev also promised that Internet prices will be lowered in the near future “through the development of alternative routes.” “Economists are currently studying this issue,” the communications service agency deputy head added.

Meanwhile, incomes of private mobile communications operators last year amounted to 2.9 billion somonis (equivalent to 282 million U.S. dollars), which is 17 million U.S. dollars more than in 2021.

There are 4.5 million Internet subscribers in Tajikistan.
