Two Men Shot Dead In Skirmish Along Uzbek-Kyrgyz Border

BISHKEK -- Uzbek border guards have shot to death two men at a disputed segment of the border with Kyrgyzstan.

The Kyrgyz Border Guard Service said the incident took place late on April 5 when a group of Kyrgyz men tried to illegally smuggle goods into Uzbek territory on horses.

When Uzbek border guards tried to stop them, the men reportedly refused and the standoff turned violent.

"Uzbek border guards had to use firearms to protect their lives and health, in which two men were lethally wounded, while others managed to escape back to Kyrgyz territory," the Border Guard Service said.

Officials said the men killed were 31 and 37 years old. They were both born in Uzbekistan but obtained Kyrgyz citizenship in 2012 and permanently resided in the village of Deires in Kyrgyzstan's Jalal-Abad region.

Officials from both countries agreed to investigate the incident separately.

According to the Border Guard Service, the bodies of the men were repatriated to Kyrgyzstan on April 6 and the situation along the border, where there have been many deadly clashes over the years, is stable.

The border areas in Central Asia have been subject to recurring disputes since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.

The situation is particularly complicated near the numerous exclaves in the volatile Ferghana Valley, where the borders of Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan meet.

Almost half of the 970-kilometer Kyrgyz-Tajik border has yet to be demarcated, leading to frequent tension between the two countries.

Enhancing the role of women – at the heart of the message

The next address of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, delivered to the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan on December 21, 2021, covers all areas of domestic and foreign, political and social activities of the country. In particular, enhancing the role of women in political and social life and involving them in responsible and various leadership positions was one of the central themes of this year's Address of the Great Leader of the Nation.

It should be noted that with the support and unique care of the Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon during the 30 years of Independence has been making a unique contribution to the process of building a civilized and democratic state of Tajikistan.

According to statistical analysis, 49.3% of the population in the Republic of Tajikistan are women, who in recent years work in management positions and in various social spheres. In particular, 68% of health workers, 73% of education workers, 27% of science workers and 23% of agricultural workers are talented women of the country.

These examples show that the state and the Government of the country, especially the Honorable Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon has great faith in the knowledge, ingenuity and potential of women and is serving in senior government positions. As the President of the country Emomali Rahmon in his annual address stressed that for the progress and development of the Republic of Tajikistan until 2030, 30% of talented civil servants and 25% of leading cadres will be nominated and placed.

As stated by the Leader of the Nation, a woman-mother is a great, unique person, a unique saint in the world. It is the scholars, sages and politicians, including the Holy Prophet of Islam, who were born from the pure and unique womb of their mothers and grew up with its white milk. That is why the Almighty, the Most Merciful, raised the status of women in the Holy Qur'an and revealed Surah An-Nisa in the name of women.

Therefore, along with being a good wife, a good daughter, a good wife and a loving and caring mother, a mother can be a leader with honor and dignity of the Tajik state and nation.

Taking into account all the greatness of women and mothers, the leader of the nation does not spare any support for the education of girls in science and education. Indeed, the future of the nation and the state depends on the educated generation, and their educators are the mothers of knowledge.

In the Ministry of Internal Affairs, men and women work in various positions of responsibility. In particular, 86 educated women of various military ranks in the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Dushanbe are working hard to ensure law and order, stability and peace of citizens and the rule of law, and to fight crime. That is why the activities of women are constantly supported by the leadership of law enforcement agencies and are recognized on the eve of all national and sectoral holidays.

In response to all this support and care of the fathers of the great Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, we, young women - law enforcement officers, as a guide and guideline of the Leader of the Nation, spared no effort to protect the state and nation and contribute to the progress and prosperity of our beloved homeland - Tajikistan. put ourselves.
