ADB appeals to Azerbaijani President regarding COP29

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has sent a letter to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev regarding the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, announced Eugene Zhukov, Director General of the Central and West Asia Regional Department of ADB, during a briefing. bp launches project to found new master’s degree programme in chemical engineering at Sumgayit State University

bp announced a major educational project which aims to found a new master's degree programme in chemical engineering at Sumgayit State University. The project is driven by the needs of the labour market, the industrial potential and service areas of Sumgayit. Aligned with the requirements of industry, the new curriculum includes such disciplines as chemical processes, production processes and environmental sustainability. The programme's training content is specifically tailored for the purposes of Sumgayit's industrial and technological enterprises and businesses. Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli, bp's vice president for the Caspian region, said: 'We believe the project is yet another successful effort to customise specialist training to the needs of businesses and industries. Chemical engineering is a discipline that Sumgayit needs more than any other city in the country. As a major industrial centre of Azerbaijan and a home to numerous modern industrial and technological enterprises, Sumgayit is in a big need of hig hly qualified chemical engineers. 'On the other hand, the project comes to life at a time when the importance of the chemical industry to the country`s overall economy is increasing and Sumgayit is the home to a significant portion of the country`s chemical potential. In this context, we hope the graduates of the programme will master modern technological knowledge, agile capabilities, innovative skills and most importantly will have the zeal and passion to support the industrial trends and the economic growth plans of their native city and the entire country.' It is planned that the master's programme will initially have 15 admissions in two areas of specialization - chemistry and technology of basic organic synthesis and chemical technology of polymers, while in the future the degree course will be expanded to encompass four more areas increasing its admissions to 95 students in total over the next five years. To start with, the project will undertake the following activities: · Up to 15 teachers of the university will be trained to upgrade their knowledge and subject matter capabilities based on the new curriculum and overall new teaching content; · A group of teachers will then be assigned to overseas universities to practice the new content and learn about the latest developments and innovations in their subject fields; · Leading international trainers and experts will be invited to share their experience, knowledge and skills with the programme's teaching staff; · Five competent teachers will be recruited from other local universities to diversify the teaching practices and pedagogical approaches; · For a significant part of the academic period, the programme students will be invloved in the projects undertaken by industrial enterprises. This will enable them to prepare their theses using the practical knowledge they acquire from the industry. · Chemical engineering and chemical laboratories and classrooms will be upgraded using modern technology and equipment. Through these facilities the universit y will establish close contacts with industrial enterprises offering new service opportunities. CEO of American Center for Religious Freedom briefed on tolerance-related projects in Azerbaijan

Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations has met with Jannah Scott, CEO of the American Center for Religious Freedom, Founding Executive Director of the Baku International Multiculturalism Centre in Los Angeles. During the meeting, Ramin Mammadov highlighted that promoting multiculturalism and interreligious harmony is a key aspect of state policy in Azerbaijan. He emphasized the significant importance that President Ilham Aliyev places on the effective regulation of state-religion relations, the strengthening of tolerance traditions, and the renovation and restoration of religious monuments across the country. Jannah Scott was also informed about the tolerance-related efforts and projects implemented in Azerbaijan, as well as the activity of the committee. The meeting also centered around the multiculturalism policy of Azerbaijan, which is based on principles of mutual respect and traditional coexistence between different ethnic cultures. Khankendi City Prosecutor’s Office to be established – ORDER

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has signed an order to establish the Khankendi City Prosecutor's Office. According to the presidential order, the Cabinet of Ministers is tasked with taking necessary measures to provide a building, equipment, communication facilities, vehicles, and address other material and technical needs related to the establishment of the Khankendi City Prosecutor's Office. ‘Sri Lanka ready to share its experience with Azerbaijan in protection of cultural heritage’

Azerbaijan's Minister of Culture Adil Karimli met on Friday with Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs of Sri Lanka Vidura Wickramanayake. Minister Adil Karimli highlighted Azerbaijan's contributions to the intercultural dialogue, stressing the importance of the 6th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue held this year. The Azerbaijani Culture Minister pointed out that Azerbaijan will host another prestigious event this year- the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29). He described it as an appreciation by the international community of Azerbaijan's meticulous attitude towards the issues of environment and climate change. Minister Vidura Wickramanayake expressed his gratitude to Minister Karimli for great organization of the forum and hospitality. The discussions also revolved around cooperation in protection of the cultural heritage. Touching upon Sri Lanka's rich traditions in terms of protection of the cultural heritage, Minister Wickra manayake expressed his countries willingness to share its experience with Azerbaijan in the relevant sphere. Military Administration Institute holds graduation ceremony of next improvement course

The 66th graduation ceremony of the improvement course at the level of "Battalion (division) commander" of the operational-tactical faculty was held at the Military Administration Institute of the National Defense University, Azerbaijan's Ministry of Defense told AZERTAC. The ceremony commenced with commemorating the bright memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and Shehids (Martyrs), who sacrificed their lives for the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan and playing the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Rector of the Military Administration Institute, Colonel Elnur Asgarli congratulated the participants, who successfully graduated from the course and wished them success. The listeners, in turn, expressed their deep gratitude to the leadership of the Defense Ministry and the teaching staff for the conditions created during the course. bp opens new laboratory at Baku Engineering University

bp opened a new laboratory at Baku Engineering University to help the educational institution train highly qualified information and communications technology (ICT) and cybersecurity professionals for the country. The laboratory is a modern facility with 30 items of advanced and innovative ICT equipment and software that bp has specifically procured and installed at the university. It is expected that around 1,000 teachers and students will use the laboratory annually improving their ICT knowledge and skills as well as learning to operate innovative ICT, create and maintain secure and efficient information systems and overall embrace digital transformation. These will be mainly students majoring in computer engineering, ICT, computer sciences and cyber/information security. Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli, bp's vice president for the Caspian region, said: 'We are pleased to open this new facility that will help the university raise the quality of teaching and learning of ICT and cybersecurity skills in particular, an d other engineering capabilities in general. Needless to say how important ICT is in our daily life and therefore developing a skill set that includes cybersecurity, data analysis, network management, software development and other related fields can open the door to many exciting career opportunities. 'In a wider sense, ICT has immense economic significance as it is used in almost in all fields from e-commerce, e-governance, banking, transport to agriculture, education and medicine. We can't imagine our daily life without ICT services and applications. The stronger a country's ICT capabilities and its people's skills are the safer their information systems will be. We hope our project will contribute to the efforts to build the needed skills to ensure online security and safety in the country.' The project started in May 2023 and has been completed well before the due date which is November 2024. The total cost of the project is around 403,000 AZN (around $ 237,000). Defense Ministry hosts mini football tournament dedicated to anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev

Mini football tournament dedicated to the 101st anniversary of the birth of National Leader of Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev is being held between the main departments and departments of the Defense Ministry under the plan approved by the First Deputy Minister of Defense - Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army, the Ministry of Defense told AZERTAC. Servicemen compete in A and B groups of 10 teams. Serviceman of the Azerbaijan Army, Nail Naghiyev and a referee of the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) manage the games, held in conditions of intense competition and friendship. According to the regulations, the 1st and 2nd place teams in each group will advance to the semi-finals after the group stage. The winners of the stage will advance to the final round.
