Boltaev Becomes Asian Boxing Champion

On January 29, Tajik boxer Davlat Boltaev defeated Kyrgyz athlete Rustam Urursbek uulu in the final at the U-22 Asian Boxing Championship. From January 22 through January 29, Tashkent hosted the first U-22 Asian Boxing Championship.

Seven Tajik boxers competed in the final. However, only Boltaev won the gold medal in the weight category up to 92 kg.

Other athletes Sumaya Kosimova (48 kg), Akbarali Abdurahmonzoda (51 kg), Abdumalik Boltaev (75 kg), Nekruz Salimov (80 kg), Shahboz Haitov (86 kg), and Muhammad Abroriddinov (+92 kg) lost to their rivals and won silver medals.

Earlier, Malika Nozimova (63 kg), Husniya Kholova (52 kg), Khusravkhon Rahimov (57 kg), and Rasul Ahadov (67 kg) won bronze medals.

Out of 18 members of the Tajik team, 11 people received medals, including 1 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze.

Totally, over 190 athletes from 12 countries took part in the championship.

Ustopiriyon Wins Bronze at the 2022 Portuguese Judo Grand Prix

Tajik wrestler Komronshoh Ustopiriyon won the bronze medal at the 2022 Portuguese Judo Grand Prix.

The tournament was held on January 28-30 in the city of Almada.

Ustopiriyon was free in the first round in the weight category up to 90 kg. He beat Doston Meiliyev of Uzbekistan and Artem Bubir of Ukraine in the quarter-finals, but lost to Christian Parlati of Italy in the semi-finals. Ustopiriyon then went on to beat Imeda Gogoladze from Georgia in the fight for bronze.

According to the International Judo Federation, 301 athletes, including 179 men and 122 women from 41 countries took part in the tournament.

First place winners received €3,000, second place — €2,000, and two third places were awarded €1,000 each.
