Briefing on the UN Water Conference

On December 2, 2022, a briefing was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the UN Conference on the Midterm Review of the Water Decade.

The UN Water Conference, co-chaired by the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, will be held on March 22-24, 2023 in New York. Over the past two decades, at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation H.E. Emomali Rahmon, the UN General Assembly adopted 8 resolutions related to water, which contributed to the active cooperation of all interested parties and the unification of the efforts of the international community to solve water related problems.

During the briefing, the Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan for Water and Climate Issues, Mr Sulton Rahimzoda, informed about the actions taken by the co-chairing countries in preparation for the UN Water Conference, about the approval of five themes of the interactive dialogue of the Conference at the high-level preparatory meeting of the Chairman of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly (October 25, 2022), on the procedure for selecting the countries co-chairs as moderators and panelists of the Conference from among developing and developed countries, on the negotiations of the working groups on the organization of four special additional events, on the cultural program, planned exhibitions and the marathon.

The briefing was attended by heads of diplomatic missions, international and regional organizations, international financial institutions and media representatives.
