First Deputy Speaker Vatanzoda Meets UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders Mary Lawlor

Today, the First Deputy Speaker of the Assembly of Representatives Mahmadali Vatanzoda met with the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders Mary Lawlor.

Taking part in the meeting were advisor to the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders Brian Dooley, Human Rights Officer at UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Orsolya Toth, the Associate Human Rights Officer, Mandate of the Special Rapporteur on human rights defenders Sophie Helle and the OHCHR National Programme Officer Suhrob Shoev.

Vatanzoda noted that the Parliament of Tajikistan has adopted more than a hundred normative acts for the protection of human rights.

He also added that for the protection of human rights, separate national programs have been adopted that meet international standards.

UN Human Rights was created by the General Assembly in 1993 through its resolution 48/141.
